Is it too soon to start a coundown? My Etsy store will be open in 5 DAYS!! So to kick off the countdown, lets talk about inspiration:
As a person talking about creativity and claiming to be creative, I feel like this is an important question for me to have answered as well as an important answer for me to share with you. So, what inspires me to create?
Honesty. I think that is what I would call it. Have you ever watched a man work at something with childish persistence and you can almost see his mouth twist up in determination as it must have when he was five or ten? Or have you ever watched a woman make an honest mistake, an unavoidable blunder, and seen the sudden humility in her eyes? Can’t you see her in a smocked dress, saddle oxfords, ribboned hair that brushes against her blushed cheeks in all her childlike realization that she is still learning?
To me, these are some of the most beautiful moments to behold. They are honest revelations–stunning pictures of humanity. Even in our old age we have not mastered living. Even in our old age there is wonder still to behold and mysteries yet to be seen–lessons left to be learned.
I was attending church one Sunday as a new believer and a new 20-year-old and as we were singing I noticed an older woman a pew in front of me. She must’ve been in her late sixties or early seventies. And she was weeping and her hands were raised as she worshipped. My curious and prideful heart was encouraged by her. I had been wondering if I could know any more about God…I had learned so much so eagerly since I had understood the gospel for the first time. But I was neglecting to understand what the “everlasting” in “Everlasting Father” meant! But by her example I realized that when I am in my sixties or seventies I will still be in need of my Savior and I will still be in awe Him.
So, in this dichotomy between eternal mystery and humble humanity is where I find myself dwelling. And I am sure I will remain here, exploring it’s hills and valleys and then I will tell stories about it.
What inspires you? I would love to hear what motivates you to create!
**Side note: I am sorry my site is a little wonky…for some reason the sidebar really wants to be at the bottom of the page and I can’t diagnose the problem. So if you are looking for links to my social media or previous posts, look way down at the bottom of the page. I think its time for this girl to learn some programming.
