This is arguably my favorite time of year –the days after Christmas, but before January 1st have, in my adult life, become increasingly intentional days of reflecting and goal setting. And something about those two things feels so refreshing. I love waking up before everyone else and sitting in the blue-morning quiet with pen and journal getting my head around how I can best invest myself in the next year. I even took my Christmas decorations down on the 29th and that is basically unheard of in my home! I normally wait as long as I can, drawing out every last bit of Christmas cozy and celebration. Maybe it is the extremely close due date (Jan. 20th) of this baby boy in my belly, or maybe I am just more of an adult that I thought I was? But anyway, goal setting and discipline have been a priority to me lately and have been a way of cultivating expectancy in our home. Basically, I’m hitting the ground running tomorrow and I couldn’t be more excited!
So here is what I will be doing to ring in the New Year:
I’ll be reading The Book of the Dun Cow. I’ve wanted to read it ever since Andrew Peterson recommended it on the Rabbit Room podcast and I just received it for Christmas! Can you see me with my hot tea and knitted blanket already? I sure can.
I will be getting used to my new 35mm lens. I’ve moved up in the photography world and finally gotten a much more usable lens. My other lens is a beast and doesn’t do the best recording video. I’m planning to use this new one to produce more process videos on Youtube, because the best videos to watch are art process videos.
I will continue to listen to The Journeywomen Podcast. It has been a treasure to me this year. You should definitely think about following Hunter’s Instagram as well. She is always recommending amazing resources and has led me to countless other helpful podcasts.
I will keep painting with this Windsor and Newton color because I love it and I can’t fall out of love with it after all these years. Acrylic, Watercolor, Oil, it is beautiful in every medium.
I will be learning more about owning a small buisness — Shanna Skidmore has a free video series going on now to equip creative entrepreneurs to be sustainable. I can’t wait to use what I have learned to make this an even better year at Emma Will.
Other than that, I’ll be walking laps in my neighborhood with my packed hospital bag wishing on more contractions so I can meet this second baby boy!!
What will you be doing in this New Year? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!! Happy 2018!!
