SO, I’ve been busy at work with new art! I really don’t know if you can call it art since I’ve taken no formal class ever…but someone recently told me the key to being an artist is to be fearless. So I’m going to call it art!
I’ve really enjoyed just letting my hands go to work. It truly does pour out of my heart.
Recently, a friend asked me how I did it. She didn’t believe that she could ever create art of her own. “I’m just not that creative,” she would say, and I told her you just have to paint what you love. Paint what you know. They give you the same advice when it comes to writing fiction and poetry. Don’t try to be Walt Whitman or C.S. Lewis. You are who you are, God has given you specific instances that have made your life a testimony to Him. Use those instances to make art for His glory…if it isn’t making art, then do math problems, analyze papers, teach, or just be a mom, dad, brother, sister for His glory.
I think I’ve finally found something I won’t get tired of. I’m sure thats false…I bet I’m just in the lovey dovey, mushy gushy stage and later when I feel tired and uninspired I won’t be so sure I am enjoying it. But I do think I will always come back to it. I want to learn more and more. It’s just fun!
I just pray that it doesn’t become an idol. That’s the danger folks…yep, I’m a prideful girl. I’m proud of myself, yessir. But I read something recently… “For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, ‘Fear not, I am the one who helps you.'” Isaiah 41:13 Thats right, y’all. God, my Father holds my right hand. He is behind every action I take. He is my sustainer and all fruit I bear is from Him. Even my art. Praise Him that he reminds me of that often.
What has God been teaching you? I’d love to hear about it.
