Here is my latest work in progress. It is done in acrylic paint on a canvas sheet. The flowers are mostly blocked in and I am beginning to add finer detail to the leaves. Soon I will work my way to adding more detail to the flowers as well.
Florals are the the least intimidating subject to me because their shapes seem simple and repetitive when compared to people, who seem more complex and detailed. Painting them is much more relaxing to me since I am not worried about proportion all the time. If I am in a creative rut or I am doubting my abilities, I paint flowers and before too long my confidence and creativity is revived.
To make them even less intimidating, I save pictures of florals onto my Pinterest and I use those to guide me rather than try to paint from my imagination. I am working on building that “catalogue” in my brain of references so one day I will be able to paint more accurately from my imagination. But for now, I just want to paint. And if pictures help me paint, then I will use pictures.
Eventually you will see this painting in the store and hopefully it will be happy and bright and ready to hang in a home.
Hope you are having a great Wednesday!
