Feels like a long time since I’ve been here…but I come with lots of doodles to share!
In my last post I talked a lot about illustration, so I tried my hand at it again. I am not happy with these drawings at all. I won’t be too hard on myself since I did them in a very short amount of time with a sparse amount of tools since I and my family were at the beach. There are aspects that I like and if I had given myself more time, I may have tried them again.
The quote comes from the art class I’ve been taking that I mentioned in this post. I have been putting so much pressure on myself lately to be completely original and be better than I am now. I am really not having patience with myself and my learning process. I have been wanting the quick satisfaction of instant success. So I am trying to consciously use my learning and practicing more intentionally. It is okay to like something that someone else did and it is okay to use it as inspiration for your own pieces. Just no copying for profit.
So, I’m going to call this a portrait because I feel that this practice has been very helpful. I just grabbed a drawing book and followed the steps, so I didn’t come up with these but this skill is going to help me so much.
And finally, this girl is more of a doodle. I really love henna tattoos and paisley prints. I figured, why not make hair out of paisley? This girl was also done very quickly, but she was fun! I think her hair looks pretty cool! I might try her again soon with some color.
I hope you all are doing well these days! Sorry for the hiatus, but it was much needed.
